The Juruá Amazonia Project in Brasil
A dedicated unit of Quality of Life is devoted to support the development of a settlement on one of the large side rivers of the Amazone, the community Juruá, deep in the brasilian Amazonia Forest.

The project Juruá is a local project, established by the inhabitants of the forest. It's aim is to keep the cultural identity of Amazonia and to stimulate a form of society which does not exploit the forest but lives together with it in harmony. As such not only the area is safeguarded from deforestation, but the inhabitants of the valley of the river Juruá can improve their life standard and keep their culture and spirituality intact
This translates itself concretely in the project Juruá, founded on ecological principles. A life community of small settlements along the river and in the woods tries, in primitive circumstances, to live a worthy live, in which the forest is seen as a big companion and source of inspiration.

The cost for the basic needs however, are very high: because the roads are only accessible 2 monts a year, the biggest part of the provisions have to be flown in. The river too can only be used for a few months per year in rainy season.

Besides the great difficulties, which can be concurred on the material level, the region is also swamped by various diseases: malaria, hepatitis and numerous tropical infections. Healthcare, besides education, is as such a vital concern. Western medication is unaffordable and unavailable. Due to this, the inhabitants themselves developped a number of medicactions and remedies by which the plants of the forest are used.

At the moment the biggest needs are the education of around 200 children and youngsters, adequate food, the purchase and maintainance of boats, the purchase of fishing equipment and basic tools for agriculture.
As such the local people are given a perspective of a sustainable economical situation which prevents the youngsters of fleeing to the cities, where poverty causes tremendous social problems.
Also can be achieved that the people can live in harmony with the forest, their habitat and teacher, without the need to destroy it due to economical reasons, but on the contrary become the first line of active protectors of this green kingdom.
